ABOUT ME
I have completed a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Karachi. Throughout my academic journey, I was passionate about helping my classmates understand complex concepts and sharing my insights to support their learning. After earning my M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, I immediately began my teaching career. Graduating at the top of my class in both my B.Sc. and M.Sc., I joined my department as an instructor. I taught various courses, including Algebra & Calculus, Mechanics & Geometry, Data Processing and Programming, and Discrete Mathematics, at two universities in Karachi, Pakistan.
I then moved to Canada and pursued an M.Sc. in Computer Science at McMaster University, where I also worked as a teaching assistant. Upon completing my degree, I worked as a Quality Assurance Analyst and later as an instructor at Sheridan CollegeI took a break from my career to raise my children. During this time, I started my own business, though it was unrelated to my academic background. When my youngest child started kindergarten, I decided to return to work and developed an interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI). With my strong foundation in Mathematics and Computer Science, I pursued online courses to explore AI further. Reflecting on my journey, I realize that mentorship programs for women like me could have accelerated my transition back into the workforce. I also learned that many women face similar challenges when re-entering the job market after a break—whether it’s updating skills or gaining relevant experience.
I started by taking a part-time teaching position while enrolling in an online MicroMasters program in Data Science. I also volunteered with various tech organizations. Despite my solid academic and teaching background, it took significant time and effort before I secured a full-time position.
I am deeply passionate about guiding and mentoring others. As an advocate for girls' education, I am currently a Google Women Techmakers Ambassador and a tech mentor for AnitaB.org. I love sharing my knowledge and experiences to help others grow. During my MicroMasters program, I noticed many aspiring learners eager to dive into Data Science but unsure where to begin. To support them, I created the Facebook page Learn AI and Data Science, which has grown to over 2.7K followers.
